New Children's Book ‘My Crown Is Good’ Celebrates Natural Hair, Identity, and Self-Love for Young Black Girls
This heartwarming children’s book by author Sydney Hart encourages children to embrace every stage of their natural hair journey with confidence and pride.
Author and social worker Sydney Hart proudly announces the release of her new children's picture book, My Crown Is Good, an uplifting story that encourages young Black girls to embrace their natural hair, celebrate their identity, and develop confidence rooted in self-love. Published by BookButler on May 6, 2026, the book is written for children ages 5–9 and is now available on Amazon.
My Crown Is Good follows Tiara, a young girl beginning her loc journey. As she notices that her hair feels different from others, Tiara begins to question whether her crown is "bad" or "ugly" after hearing unkind remarks about her short locs. With support, love, and positive self-talk, she learns an empowering truth: each phase of her loc journey is unique, lovely, and perfectly suited for her.
Filled with warmth, affirmation, and faith, this story teaches young readers to embrace their natural hair, take pride in who they are, and recognize that they are beautifully made—both inside and out.
"My Crown Is Good is more than a story about hair—it's a story about identity, confidence, and belonging," said Hart. "Every child deserves to see themselves reflected positively in the books they read and to know they are wonderfully made."
As a licensed social worker and creative storyteller, Hart drew upon both her professional experience and personal passion when writing the book.
"As a clinician and a creative, I know how deeply words shape a child's world. I wrote My Crown Is Good to be a mirror and an anthem for Black youth and our natural girlies. It is a love letter to every loc, coil, and curl—a reminder that their hair, their identity, and their magic are inherently good, beautiful, and powerful. Representation isn't just important; it's essential. Let's pour love into our children's confidence and help them wear their crowns with pride."
Perfect for families, classrooms, libraries, salons, churches, and community organizations, My Crown Is Good encourages meaningful conversations about self-esteem, representation, and embracing natural beauty.
