‘Women in Politics’ by Mary Hayashi Named 2023 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards Finalist

Book Publicity Services is pleased to announce Women in Politics by Mary Hayashi has been recognized as a Finalist in the 26th annual Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards.

As part of its mission to discover, review, and share the best books from university and independent publishers, Foreword Magazine, Inc. hosts an annual awards program each year. Finalists represent the best books published in 2023. After more than 2,400 individual titles spread across 55 genres were submitted for consideration, the Finalists were determined by Foreword’s editorial team.

Women in Politics was named a 2023 INDIES Finalist in the category for Women’s Studies (Adult Nonfiction) and Political and Social Sciences (Adult Nonfiction).

In Women in Politics: Breaking Down the Barriers to Achieve True Representation, award-winning author and healthcare leader Mary Chung Hayashi offers a riveting exploration of the strides made by women in government. This contemporary analysis blends personal experiences, interviews, and powerful stories of trailblazing leaders, emphasizing the need for gender-political parity and inclusive leadership in today's democracy. The book also sheds light on the persistent challenges women face in achieving gender-political parity, serving as a powerful call to action for all of us. It reminds us that to shape our democracy, we must actively participate in the ongoing struggle for equal representation.

“I am deeply impressed by the scope and range of books submitted this year. Each Finalist represents a significant contribution to the literary landscape and underscores the crucial role that independent authors and publishers play, ensuring a steady flow of diverse and thought-provoking content. The INDIES not only honors outstanding literary achievements but also helps to qualify and connect these exceptional books with librarians and booksellers alike,” said Christopher Nesbit, INDIES Award Director.

“Part of the INDIES joy for me is rediscovering so many fantastic books that didn’t get the attention they deserved when first released or were too quickly forgotten. This best of 2023 competition will once again put the spotlight on what makes indie publishing the soul of the book industry,” shared Matt Sutherland, Executive Editor.
